Remember how the Lord Jesus Christ cursed the fig tree when it had no fruit when he wanted figs? He cursed, and the fig tree shriveled up and dried at the roots.

Something of the same nature is mentioned in Hosea's Chapter 9.

In verse 16:- Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: yea, though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb.

In verse 17:- My God will cast them away because they did not hearken unto him: and they shall be wanderers among the nations.

To bear fruit, believers need to hear the word of God. Upon hearing they need to obey. Their obedience will lead to fruits being formed. When they hear and do not obey, they can not bear fruit. When there is no fruit God will cast them away. Casting them away means being separated from the true vine and apart from God, we can not survive. Hence, we are not meant to become the fig tree with no fruit but to produce fruit always by being obedient to Christ.

The fruit we are talking about is the change within us that makes us godly i.e. reflecting the nature of God by learning from him and being reformed during the process. No matter what phase of life we may be in we are meant to be fruitful. For each season of life, there is a fruit that grows because of our actions. Our choices are the input that brings changes around us. So our choices point to the direction our life is heading and we are the ones making the choice it is us who take us where we end up. And to make proper decisions we need proper guidance and this guidance comes from a good guide. Who else can be more reliable than the one who caused the beginning?
